Letter to Logan – July 2019

One month closer to our wedding! We recently reflected on how much has changed in a year, and wow, has it ever. A year ago, we were both under a lot of stress then related to our careers and living situations, and it caused some conflict.  Around the same time, we were starting to talk about engagement rings and timeline for getting married.

I can see how much our relationship has grown since then. We are more in sync than ever. It might sound odd, but I can actually feel how much stronger and deeper my love for you has grown in the past year, even in the past few months. I can’t imagine what I’ll feel in 5, 10, or 30 years.

I attribute this to many things. First, going to Indiana earlier this month. I met your sister, her husband, and their kids, and I’m so excited to have Whitney as my sister. She’s just as fun, kind, and a pleasure to be around as you promised. I’m so glad that she’ll be one of the ladies standing beside me when we say “I do.”

I am so grateful to your parents for throwing us this party since the majority of your family won’t be able to make the trip to Bali to see us actually say “I do.”

darcie and loganI also really enjoyed being able to see where you grew up. You and I both spend our childhoods in the Midwest, and it felt really special to share this with you since we had such similar upbrings and yet live very different lives now in San Diego. I felt even more connected to you after witnessing our shared roots.

As we navigate life side-by-side, we learn more about how the other copes with stressors, how to support and encourage one another, and how we like to spend our time. The more we know about each other, the better we are able to meet each other’s needs and work together as a unit.

A third reason is that we both continue to progress in our careers. Separately we continue to explore potential paths, and I believe it brings us closer together as we have conversations about the pros and cons of various options. I think one of our strengths is how we are able to be sounding boards for each other. I’ve said this before but one of my favorite activities with you is our neighborhood walks because it’s the place where we most often share thoughts and ideas related to our careers. It’s so fun for me to have someone who has big dreams and the drive to make them happen.

For me, this month has been one of the happiest we’ve shared. San Diego is finally shedding May Gray and June gloom and the warmer weather is finally here. It’s so crazy to me just how much summer weather brings out the best in us. We are both happier and more optimistic.

Tomorrow is August! What a crazy month this will be with my bachelorette party, getting our marriage license (what!), and then finishing the month out with our legal ceremony! So crazy that this is actually happening. But I couldn’t be more excited to be on this journey with you!

Darcie xoxo
